Today we have published our Annual Report and Accounts covering the period from 1 April 2023 – 31 March 2024.

Three years into the life of Environmental Standards Scotland (ESS), we continue to establish ourselves as a key component of environmental governance in Scotland. This report represents the second formal annual overview of our work with accompanying financial information.

At ESS, we are committed to working in a way that is inclusive and accessible.

Being inclusive

Over this reporting period, we were pleased to have received representations from individuals and community groups from across Scotland. From the Highlands down to Dumfries and Galloway, from Renfrewshire across to Perth and Kinross, we hope that our work in this report reflects the broad range of environmental issues that are facing communities across the length and breadth of this country. Our successful community engagement programme also continues to allow us to meet with groups around Scotland to hear first-hand about their environmental concerns. You can find out more about this programme on our website. Finally, later this month we look forward to publishing our People Strategy as we continue to build our team and a working culture at ESS that we can be proud of.

Being accessible

Today we are publishing an easy read document explaining what our remit is and information about the work that we do. We would encourage you to share this among your family and friends who may be interested in our work. This year, we have also translated the forewords in our Annual Report and Accounts into Gaelic. In addition, we will shortly also be sharing an animation detailing the story of the work we have completed this last financial year.
