Dr Paul McAleavey
Board Member
Paul has a senior role at the European Commission, where he currently heads the team leading a large-scale review of the Commission’s organisation and operations. In his prior roles, he worked on the strategy and work programming of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, and was previously been a senior manager in the European Environment Agency (EEA) as Head of the Co-ordination and Strategy Department.
Before moving to the EEA in 2005, Paul worked in the personal office of the EU Commissioner for the Environment. He began his career as a Senior Economic Researcher in the Scottish Office Industry Department.
Paul has two degrees in political and social sciences from the University of Strathclyde and the European University Institute, Florence.
Paul has a strong background in evidence-based policy-making; data-handling, evaluation and communication; organisational change; and, a thorough knowledge of European environmental legislation and EU-based institutions.
